McDowell, Skaggs And Stratman Qualify For State Wrestling

The 2016 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships will begin on Thursday, February 18 and conclude on Saturday, February 20 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha. The area will have three competitors as Minden junior Tysen McDowell will represent the Whippets in Class C while Axtell junior Hunter Stratman and sophomore AJ Skaggs will represent the Wildcats in Class D.
McDowell will get things underway to start the day on Thursday competing in the first round beginning at 9:30 for Class B and C. McDowell (31-15) will make his state debut against senior Zach Heinke of Logan View (40-8) with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals to face the winner between Shawn Barger of Bishop Neuman (33-13) or Coltin Brown of Gibbon (31-6).
Stratman and Skaggs will be wrestling in the second session starting at 4 p.m. for Classes A and D. Stratman will be appearing in his first state meet for the Cats at 182 pounds. Stratman (27-10) will face senior Garrett Stone of Sutton (24-7) in the first round. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to take on either Billy Barelman of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (43-9) or Gideon Monette of Mullen (36-1).
