The Minden Community Players invite the public to get back to normal and visit the theater with their production of ‘The Marvelous Wonderettes’ June 18-July 4 at Minden Opera House.
“I think the community is ready to get back to normal and what better way than to go back to a simpler time when the biggest thing you had to worry about is if your boyfriend is going to let you wear his jacket,” Producer Cassandra Tomsen said. “It’s been great getting back in to the swing of it and showcasing the talent in the area.”
The Marvelous Wonderettes, written by Roger Bean, tells the story of four ladies with drastically different personalities attending their high school prom in 1958. The quartet becomes the last minute entertainment for the evening while also vying for the title of prom queen. In the second act the friends reunite to perform at their ten year class reunion. Hit songs from the 50s and 60s are woven into the play to tell the girls’ stories. The play even offers audience interaction as the audience gets to cast their vote for prom queen.
Four talented women from the area make up the entire cast for the show. Class clown and tomboy Betty Jean is portrayed by Savannah Brandt. Her best friend and the prettiest girl in school, Cindy Lou, is played by Erin Ellis. Carina Fritz brings to life the organized and meticulous Missy. Last but not least is the oblivious Suzy played by Kelli Lynn.
