MHS One Act Play Evokes Schmidt’s Memories Of Participation At The North Platte Canteen

The Minden High School One Act team public production of ‘The Coffee Pot Is On’ drew a full crowd on November 19 in the high school auditorium. The play tells the story of actual events that took place at the North Platte Canteen during WWII.

Audience members were welcomed to the school by actors portraying canteen workers just like soldiers who stopped in North Platte on their way to the war. The experience and the play brought back memories for some audience members who had been to the North Platte Canteen including Marcie Schmidt of Minden.

Schmidt grew up on a farm in the North Platte area. Three of her four brothers were enlisted in the service during the war, two in the Navy and one in the Marines.
