The Minden High School Drama Department will be performing ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ April 27-28 at the Minden Opera House with shows starting at 7:30 p.m. The dramatization by Christopher Sergel is taken from the book by Frank B. Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey.
Based on a true story, Frank and Ernestine reminisce about their childhoods in a family with twelve children. Set in the 1950’s, their memories are brought to life for the audience as their efficiency expert father practices his work at home to prepare his dozen kids for a life changing event. In three acts, the audience will be drawn into the humorous, often chaotic life of the Gilbreths.
Choosing a script for the annual spring play often presents a challenge with students participating in other spring activities and the school year coming to a close. Embracing the involvement of their actors in other pursuits, directors Angie Oberg and Whitney Maulsby chose ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ because the script is fun, flexible, and full of great characters.
