The Minden Whippet boys golf team traveled to Lexington and Lakeside Country Club for the 2017 Lexington Invitational golf tournament on April 11. The day started out cool and breezy but warmed up gradually toward afternoon. North Platte won the team portion of the team shooting a 325 for the day followed by a good Grand Island Northwest team, finishing with a 333 score. Minden placed ninth overall, firing a 376.
Jake Kuehn got back into the medal count carding an 84 for the tournament. Jake’s 84 was good enough for tenth place overall. Thomas Miller and Ethan Hanson both came in with 92s and finished in 26th and 25th places respectively. Jacob Luff, competing in his first varsity meet, finished with a 108. Alex Olson also competed for Minden and finished the day with a 121.
“Jake played pretty steady from tee to green, but then ran into difficulty controlling his putting stroke,” commented Coach Steve Exstrom. “If Jake was firing on all cylinders, he could have very easily shot in the high 70s. A shot here, a shot there, all add up at the end of the day and we have to find a solution to this problem heading into the middle part of the season.”
