Minden City Employee Dies After Sunday Accident
A City of Minden employee died Tuesday morning from the effects of being overcome by toxic gas while on an emergency call to clear a blockage in a sewer line in a lift station on West Fifth Street in Minden.
Robert Honomichl, 55, of Minden was transported Sunday afternoon to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney in critical condition and passed away Tuesday morning.
In a release from the City of Minden, the thoughts and prayers of the city are with the family.
City Water and Sewer Superintendent Mike Kleen, 51, was also in the lift station and was also overcome by toxic gas and was transported to Kearney County Health Services. Kleen was released from the hospital Monday, Aug. 12.
The Minden Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department were called to the scene at 3:26 p.m. and were able to extract both men to safety.
The matter is still under investigation and additional information will be released by the city attorney as it becomes available.
