Tree trimming and Sunday liquor sales were top agenda items at the Minden City Council meeting on April 7th. The Minden City Council took action on how the city handles the expense and responsibility of trimming trees that are too close to power lines. They also moved forward with the drafting of a resolution to allow Sunday off-sale alcohol sales in the city limits.
Brian Smith from Nebraska Public Power District was at the meeting to discuss the topic of tree trimming in Minden. NPPD is under contract to manage the city’s power lines. Brian had prepared a list of trees that he has currently identified as needing to be pruned due to proximity to power lines. “What I’m looking for are trees in our main transmission lines that could knock out the entire town first and then I look at our main feeders into town.” Smith said that if trees are brushing or rubbing against a line or if a tree or limb is dead and could fall onto a line, the tree is put on the list.
