Minden Defeats Cats In Tournament

Minden’s girls posted a 65-49 win over Axtell in the second day of the Minden Holiday Classic on December 30. The Lady Whippets moved their record over .500 to close out 2020 at 5-4 while Axtell fell to 3-6. 

Bailee Schurmann drilled three treys and scored 11 first quarter points as Minden led 25-7. Abby Rehtus, Sloane Beck and Rozie Nelson each tallied four in the period. Jacey Smidt scored four for Axtell. 

The Whippets had a 14-11 advantage in the second period to lead at halftime 39-18. Schurmann potted two more treys and Nelson and Priscila Madriz scored four each. Trinity Houchin and Jesse Bertrand netted three points apiece for the Cats.
