Minden captured the consolation game of the Axtell Holiday Tournament by topping Axtell 73-46 on December 29. The Whippets moved to 6-3 while the Cats fell to 3-6. The 73 points for Minden was a season high.
Minden was up 13-7 at the end of the first period. Seth Hauserman scored five for the Whippets and Carson Lindau drilled a three for Axtell.
The second quarter was fast-paced and high scoring. Minden outpointed the Cats 34-19 for a halftime lead of 47-26. The Whippets’ Jake Ryan was “en fuego” nailing five threes and getting 16 points in the period. Teammates Austin Lutkemeier and Braiden Schroeder each tallied five, Carter Harsin and Caden Bradley four apiece. Minden was 13 of 17 from the floor. For Axtell, Brennan Runge scored six, Cal Johnson and Gavend Cole four each and Ethan Morgan netted a three.
