The Minden Lady Whippet basketball team’s dream of playing for the Class C-1 state championship was dashed on Friday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center by the top-seeded Wahoo Warriors in the semifinals.
The fifth-seeded Whippet pushed the Warriors the entire game but came out on the losing end of a 13 point decision, 59-46. Minden (22-3) will play in the C-1 consolation game against the Sandy Creek Cougars (22-2) at Lincoln Southwest at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Wahoo opened the game building a 6-2 lead before Jamie Kissinger got Minden’s offense rolling with a pair of free throws and a layup to tie the game at 6-6. Wahoo regained the lead 9-6 but Hallie Bauer scored on a putback basket to cut the lead to 9-8.
The Warriors increased its lead to 12-8 before Kissinger was able to follow her own shot and find the bottom of the net to close the gap back to 12-10. Wahoo was able to widen the gap back to five as they went on a 3-0 run to end the first quarter and take a 13-10 lead into the second stanza.
