The Minden First Bank Seniors qualified for the Class B State American Legion Baseball Tournament for the first time since 1975. First Bank finished as the runner-up in the B-6 Area Tournament at Broken Bow. Normally a second place finish would not get a team into the eight-team state field but, by virtue of Broken Bow winning the area tournament and serving as host of this year’s state playoffs, First Bank, as the runner-up in the state host’s area tournament, was able to advance and enters state with a 15-10 record.
After going 1-1 in the first two days of the tournament (reported on in the previous Courier), First Bank stayed alive by topping the Gothenburg Melons 12-7 on July 25 and then fell to Broken Bow 8-5 on July 26.
