Minden Girls Rout Patriots In Holiday Tourney Opener
The Minden Lady Whippet basketball team rebounded well from its first loss of the season in the first round of the 2011 Minden Holiday Tournament in C.L. Jones Gymnasium.
The Whippets opened the first round by taking on the Adam Central Patriots. Minden cruised to a 24-7 first quarter lead and rolled to a 76-33 victory. Minden (7-1) will advance to the Friday, Dec. 30 final and take on the Grand Island Northwest Vikings who defeated the Bennington Badgers in overtime 58-53.
The Whippets placed three players in double figures led by senior Hallie Bauer with a team-best 20 points followed by sophomores Brooke Kissinger with 18 points and Jamie Kissinger with 14.
Minden got off to a fast start in the first period racing to a 24-7 lead thanks in part senior Hallie Bauer with eight quick points. Brooke Kissinger added a pair of three-pointers while Bailey Petersen dropped in four points.
In the second quarter, Jamie Kissinger got hot for Minden as she scored nine points in the frame followed by her sister, Brooke, with six point on two more three balls. Carly Sitorius, Bauer and Sydney Stadler each chipped in baskets as Minden netted 21 points in the period. Adams Central finished the second period with only five points as the Whippets went into intermission holding a 45-12 lead.
In the third period, Minden’s offense remained hot scoring a game-best 26 points while holding Adams Central to eight more points. Bauer took over in the third scoring 10 points on five field goals followed by Brooke Kissinger with six points while Sitorius added five including a three-pointer. Jamie Kissinger also added a three-pointer while Allison Hollinger scored a bucket.
