Minden Girls Upset By Centura In C1-9 Subdistrict

The Minden Whippets girls basketball team will have to hope for a wildcard bid to get into the 2011 Nebraska State Girls Basketball Tournament after getting upset in the Class D1-9 subdistrict final on Thursday at Grand Island Northwest High School.
The Centura Centurions handed Minden only its second loss of the season in a close 45-53 contest. The Class C-1 state-rated Whippets finish the regular season with a 20-2 record. Minden had defeated Centura by a score of 57-39 on January.
Minden will now have to sit back and wait for the outcomes of the district finals to see if the Whippets will earn one of the two wildcards to get into the state field March 2-4 in Lincoln.
Minden and Centura played a close defensive quarter to open the game. Brooke Kissinger led the Whippets with four points and finished the game with 11 points as the game was knotted at 9-9 entering the second period.
