The Minden Whippet varsity wrestling team competed on Saturday in the 24-team Hastings St. Cecilia Invitational held in Hastings.
The Whippets came away with an 11th place finish scoring 52.5 points. Grand Island Senior High JV won the meet with 140.5 followed by Tri-County with 131 and Doniphan-Trumbull with 124.

“Jack was able to avenge an earlier loss to Anthony Pacheco from Kearney Catholic 2-2 Quin Rutt, a freshman, again wrestled very solid placing fourth,” stated Coaches Jim Andersen and Sam Dunn. “In the matchup of the day, Bryce squared off against Austin Wilson of St. Cecilia, a two-time state champion, who hadn’t been scored upon this year. Bryce lost his second match of the season 9-4. We felt Bryce did an excellent job setting the pace in the match against an excellent wrestler. Earlier in the day, Lewis won his 100th match. This is a milestone among high school wrestlers.”
