Minden High School recently received a donation of several dozen engines for use in the power mechanics class.
As part of Honda’s Training and Certification Systems (TACS) program, students enrolled in the class will take apart an assembled engine and put it back together, gaining not only experience with and knowledge of car engines but also taking a step towards becoming officially certified to working on Honda engines.
TACS has five different levels to its certification program, said Bob Carlson, teacher of both the power and auto mechanics classes offered at Minden High School. The program includes online courses and hands-on experience.
“As the students took the class, they were able to get online and complete the training and exams that allowed them to get the first level of certification through Honda,” Carlson said. “This year, we got 90% of the class through level one certification.”
