The City of Minden is known for its Christmas lights and Pioneer Village, but now it has a new feature to draw visitors: an electric vehicle charging station located outside City Hall. Purchase of an e-car for City use and charging station were approved by the Minden City Council last Fall. Both were partially funded through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.
“We’re a member of the Nebraska Community Energy Alliance. This opportunity came to light where these various grants pay for half the e-car and charging station,” City Administrator Matt Cederburg explained.
Prior to purchasing the e-car, the City utilized an old police car for building inspections, nuisance properties, to attend trainings and the like. Recognizing the need for a vehicle devoted to employee use and the opportunity to have a portion of the cost covered, the city council approved submitting the grant application and the purchase last Fall.
