Minden Residents Throw Away $98K

The headline is shocking. Its hard to imagine how our everyday actions or inaction could be costing Minden that much money. Are Minden residents throwing money in the trash? No, but what they are throwing away does cost money and have value.
The City of Minden is fortunate to have a state-of-the-art recycling center and provides curb side pick-up of recyclables as part of the sanitation service residents pay for. The recycling center was established through grant funds and with the equipment the City of Minden is able to collect recyclables and sell them directly to vendors.
Exactly how are Minden residents throwing away money? …by not taking advantage of the recycling program available to them.
