Sergeant Nathan Meyer returned home Friday, October 28 from a deployment to Afghanistan with the 623rd Engineer Company of the Nebraska Army National Guard based in Wahoo. He was welcomed home by his wife of 10 1/2 years, Jodi, and their children Trevor, Travis and Evelyn.
Meyer originally enlisted in 1999 for the education benefits and this trip to Afghanistan marked his third deployment of his career. The Meyers agreed this was the best deployment with boys being older. Previous trips to Bosnia and Iraq were more difficult as they were longer, in addition to Jodi raising the young kids. She emphasized appreciation for the church, St. Paul’s Lutheran, which helped out with food and raking leaves in the absence of her husband.
Trevor said it was “fantastic, amazing” to have his father back, to which Travis added “funny.” On base, the Meyers were in contact almost daily, as there was internet access.
