Minden To See Economic Development In New Year

There is cause for excitement as Minden moves into the new year. Expansion is apparent across town, as well as the opening of new businesses.
Already underway, the expansion of Kearney County Health Services broke ground on phase two of the expansion on September 28, 2011.
Phase one had included new heating and air systems, as well as a complete sprinkler system for fire control. Phase two plans to improve patient rooms, as well as expanding the hospital grounds to the south and adding parking to reduce the amount of cars parked on the residential street directly across from KCHS.
At the ground breaking, Minden Mayor Roger Jones  commented that two institutions make a community what it is- education and health care. He expressed praise of Kearney County for maintaining excellent systems for both. He said the renovation would move an “old, tired building” into the 21st century.
Minden Public Schools’ Parent Advisory Committee has begun raising funds for matting to go on the East Elementary School playground. The matting would make it easier and safer for East’s handicapped students to play with their friends.
MPS is also in the midst of a series of patron meetings hosted at their various facilities. They hope the meetings and  community input that results from them, in collaboration with partners from DLR Group, will result in massive improvements to each facility associated with Minden’s public school system.
DLR Group did a facility audit in the spring which was presented to the board and then to members of the community who attended the most recent patron meeting. The audit outlined areas of each building that need work or would benefit from certain upgrades.
