Minden Tops Gordon-Rushville In State Opener

The Minden Lady Whippets had a successful opening game in the first round of the 2011 Nebraska State High School Girls Basketball Tournament on Thursday when they defeated Gordon-Rushville at the Pershing Center.
It was a matchup of the fourth-seeded Mustangs (19-4) and fifth-seeded Whippets (20-2) with two contrasting styles in Class C-1. Minden wants to press and make it an up-tempo game while Gordon-Rushville likes to slow it down and work the ball inside.
The Lady Whippets slapped on the full court pressure and it took until the second half but the game was played to Minden’s liking. Minden pulled away in the second half for the 49-38 victory.
Minden (21-2) advanced to the semifinals on Friday where they faced the top-seeded Wahoo Warriors (26-1) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at 2 p.m. with the winner moving forward to the C-1 championship game on Saturday.
