Minden’s 11 seniors will get to remember being victorious in their final home contest as the Whippets defeated Wood River/Shelton (a first-year cooperative for football only) 19-0 on October 16 at Kuper Field. The win moved Minden’s record to 3-4 with one game remaining— a matchup with Broken Bow on October 23.
WR/S had some early success moving the ball with their option game but never seriously threatened to score. The Silverbacks maneuvered inside the Whippets’ 30 on three occasions on the night, getting no closer to the end zone than the 22. The first quarter ended scoreless.
Minden drove for a pair of second period touchdowns. A 40-yard drive ended at 9:29 when Evan Smith got a three-yard TD run making it 6-0. Then at 4:54 a 59-yard drive was punctuated by Carter Harsin’s 20-yard TD sprint. Dylan Janda’s interception ended WR/S’s final possession of the half as the Whippets went to intermission ahead 12-0.
