Minden Volleyball To Hold “Crush It For Cancer” Night
the Minden volleyball team will be hosting a “Crush It for Cancer” night during their matches with Southern Valley and Alma. The Southern Valley match will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the Alma match will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. All proceeds from this evening will go to four worthy organizations: Health Connect at Home – Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney County Health Services, Kearney County Relay for Life, and the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure”. Last year we raised over $4,000 at this event. This year we would like to raise $4,500.
Health Connect at Home – Good Samaritan Hospital provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support for terminally ill patients in several counties including Kearney County. The Kearney County Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society to help communities fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer. The American Cancer Society funds research, education, and patient services such as transportation, The Guestroom Program, and The Look Good Feel Good Program. Kearney County Health Services offers medical care to residents of Kearney County. Money raised will fund awareness and education for the detection and prevention of cancer. Susan G. Komen for the Cure funds breast cancer research, education, treatment, and screening.
We are asking all who attend to wear lavender in support of the fight against all cancers. We are currently selling Minden Whippet “Crush It For Cancer” heather grey t-shirts with a lavender print for $12.00 with all proceeds going to the above-mentioned organizations. T-shirts can be purchased at the October 5th home football game. In addition, order forms can be picked up at the high school office or can be found on the school website. All t-shirt orders and payment must be received by October 8th at noon. In addition, a freewill offering will be collected at the door.
In addition, two pair of Husker volleyball tickets will be raffled off that night prior to the last match. Both are for the Sunday, October 28th game against Penn State. Raffle tickets are $3 each or two for $5. Please contact any volleyball player or coach to purchase raffle tickets.
Finally, we will be honoring those who have been directly touched by this disease with a moment of silence prior to the final match at approximately 7:30 p.m. We hope you will join us for this special evening. Crush It For Cancer!!
