Minden Whippets Come Up Short at State, Finish Third

State volleyball competition began on November 2nd which saw the two seeded Minden Whippets (33-3) championship aspirations be put to the test. The first round of the state tournament saw Minden emerge victorious over Douglas County West Falcons in three sets 25-19, 25-8 and 25-18.

The win or go home atmosphere brought out the best in the Whippets with senior Sloane Beck stepping up on the offensive side totaling nine kills and three digs. Sophomore Mattie Kamery was a utility player doing a variety of everything on the court amounting eight kills, eight assists, two aces and fourteen digs. On the defensive side, senior Bailey Rogers led the Whippets with eighteen total digs.

Minden’s second round matchup provided the Whippets with a chance at revenge on the season as they took on the team responsible for two of their three losses on the season, Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders. Unfortunately it was not the result the Whippets were seeking, as their state championship aspirations were halted in four sets against the Crusaders. The four set scores were 16-25, 25-20, 23-25 and 20-25. Mattie Kamery was the standout for this game totaling twenty four kills, seventeen assists, three aces and eighteen digs. Freshman Myla Emery contributed fourteen kills, twenty five assists, one assist and twelve digs.
