During this time of social distancing and uncertainty, people are looking for ways to feel connected. Minden, the Christmas City, is bringing residents together (while maintaining a safe distance) with Christmas lights. The idea spawned from Facebook posts and other communities, but Minden has fully embraced the symbol of hope.
“I saw online where people were doing that in another community and then saw it again in the Kearney Hub. I’ve been a resident of the Christmas City for most of my life and love the Christmas season so I thought this was a great idea,” Marcy Brandt said. “I thought that if it might lift people’s spirits a bit as they drive by my house, then that’s a pretty great thing.”
Posting a picture of her lights on Facebook along with the reference to John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it,” Brandt started a narrative among her friends and neighbors.
