The Minden Whippets track and field team had a very successful 2021 Nebraska State Track and Field Championship weekend on May 21-22 at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
The Whippets were led by junior Gage Fries. Fries qualified in the 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles. On Friday, Fries ran in the prelims and qualified for the finals in both running in times of 14.88 (personal record) and 41.07 respectively.
On Saturday, Fries came through with an even a better time to claim the gold medal in the B boys 110 meter hurdles running a new personal best time of 14.75. His time would also garner him the 2021 All-Class Gold for the event in all classes. Fries makes it the third straight state meet a Whippet hurdler has been on top of the podium with the gold medal – Marshall Chasek went back to back in 2018 and 2019.
