Minnie Copp

Minnie “Irene” Copp, 80, of Upland, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Kearney Region Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden with Michael Mohr officiating. Interment followed the services at the Upland Cemetery.

The funeral will be live streamed to the Craig Funeral Home Facebook page. Memorials in Irene’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation. Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of the arrangements.

Irene was born on October 21, 1940 in Iowa City, IA to Wesley and Grace (Hiatt) Kelso. She grew up in the Glenwood area and attended school at Pacific Junction, IA. She was united in marriage to Vincent J. Copp on June 27, 1964 in Winterhaven, CA and to this union, one son, Scott was born. The family made their home in California before moving to the Minden and Upland area in 1974. Irene worked for many years at Mosaic in Axtell before retiring in 1999. 

Irene was a member of the Upland United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years with The Closet in Minden and with Special Olympics. She enjoyed playing Chinese checkers, reading, crocheting, and completing crossword puzzles. She was very family oriented and loved calling her family members often. She especially enjoyed all of her grandbabies. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Scott (Sonya) Chappell; grandchildren, Torrina (Jerry) Green, and Daniel Chappell (fiancé Jasmine), all of Upland. Great-grandchildren, Jarvis (Patsy) Green and Amber (Daniel) Brandt; great-great-grandchildren, Miles Brandt, Katie Green, Ryan Matthews, and Deric Matthews; brothers, Wesley Kelso of Amarillo, TX, Kenneth Booth of Pacific Junction, IA, Thomas (Hazel) Booth of Rochester, MN, and Robert (Elizabeth) Booth of Crete, NE; sisters, Jeannie (Floyd) Mohr of Stromsburg, NE, and Janet Foster of Crete, NE; as well as a host of extended relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vincent in 2007; brother, John Kelso; and sister, Norma Doyen.
