MPS Board Hears Outdoor Facility Proposal

Greg Wolford and April Hock from W Design Associates presented a preliminary project outline for updates to the outdoor facilities during the April 8 meeting of the Minden Public Schools Board of Education. Five areas were noted in the presentation: the grandstand, field lighting, restrooms and concessions, grading and drainage, and the track.
The grandstand structure is sturdy, but the plan calls for replacing the wooden planking with aluminum to prolong its life. Stair aisles will be widened and railings added. The retaining wall will be reenforced and access under the bleachers blocked from the public with fencing. The structure will be made ADA compliant with a ramp and 14 platforms for wheelchair seating. Handicap parking will be added to the outdoor facility with new sidewalk leading to the grandstand. The work requires the removal of a light pole.
