Axtell and S-E-M battled right to the end in a Fort Kearny Conference boys’ basketball tussle that the Mustangs won 64-60 in Axtell on January 7. The Cats fell to 3-8.
S-E-M led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, thanks in part to a three-pointer as the period ended. Carson Lindau hit two treys and scored eight points in the quarter with Cal Johnson and Brennan Runge (a trey) tallying three apiece.
The Cats drained five threes in the second period and outscored the Mustangs 23-17, aided by Elijah Bergstrom’s putback with one second left, to go in at halftime up 37-33. Runge had a trio of treys, Cooper Miller had one three and five points, Johnson scored four and Lindau added a three-ball.
