Hildreth Upper Elementary School celebrated a new addition to its playground on September 24 with the presentation of a Buddy Bench and an ice cream treat to follow. Fifth grade student Jadon Harrold initiated the project to encourage inclusion and friendship on the playground.
As a new student to the district in second grade, Jadon faced the challenge of making friends. When some time had passed without making any connections, he began thinking of creative ways to get to know his fellow students and help others who were feeling lonely.
Jadon wanted to create a play area for kids who didn’t have anyone to play with to come together to talk, play, and have fun. He outlined his idea and made posters which he showed to School Counselor and Upper Elementary Assistant Principal Kelly Simmons.
