One School, One Book

C.L. Jones Middle School students and their families are taking part in a community wide shared reading event. The One School, One Book reading challenge was introduced at the beginning of the second quarter to students in grades 4-8 to promote reading for students and families at school and home.

Students received a copy of the book “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, a reading schedule, and an informational letter about the program during a special assembly. Families are asked to read the book together at home during the quarter. Following the provided schedule will require families to set aside about 15 minutes at a time for reading aloud together.

Reading aloud at home helps to prepare students to be an effective reader and can also be a fun family activity. Teachers and administrative staff at CLJMS will be reading the book as well to help build a community of readers at the school.
