The Minden High School Speech Team missed their third competition of the season January 19 due to weather. Icy road conditions prevented the team from traveling to Broken Bow, but individuals used the time off to continue practicing their events.
The season began the weekend before school resumed from Winter Break. The Whippets had a slow start at Adams Central with three events earning medals. Novice medal winners at the competition were Abby Fiske 2nd in Entertainment; Abby Fiske, Raegan Horner, and Peyton Schoone 3rd in OID; and Kaleigh Melroy 5th in Poetry.
On January 12 the team traveled to Grand Island Senior High School for the CNFL #1 competition. Despite the tough competition, the team came away with medals in eight events. Varsity medalists were Lily Van Dusen and Chase Villars 2nd in Duet Acting; William Werner 5th in Humorous Prose; Camryn Melroy 11th in Poetry; and Leah Boudreau 12th in Entertainment. Novice medal winners were Abby Fiske 3rd in Entertainment; Abby Fiske, Raegan Horner, and Peyton Schoone 3rd in OID; Leah Livingston 8th in Informative; and Raegan Horner 8th in Poetry.
