One Vehicle Accident Claims The Life Of Axtell Woman

According to a press release from Kearney County Attorney Melodie Bellamy,
Connie Nutt, an Axtell resident, died as a result of a traffic accident in rural Kearney County on December 14, 2016. The Kearney County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an erratic driver southbound on Highway 44 from the I-80 overpass. The reporting party provided a description of the vehicle and a license plate number. They continued to follow the vehicle as it traveled southbound on Highway 44. The Kearney County Deputy observed the vehicle and an erratic driving pattern approximately one mile north of the intersection of Highway 44 and Highway 6. He was able to turn around and activated his patrol vehicle lights at about the time Nutt’s vehicle left the roadway. The Deputy observed the vehicle hit an embankment and become airborne before rolling and coming to rest on the west side of Highway 44. The Axtell Fire Department, the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol, and the Kearney County Attorney’s Office responded to the scene. Nutt, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported from the scene and later died at a Kearney Hospital.
