Patricia Eleanor “Pat” Thomsen Kuppinger, 90 years of age, of Thornton, Colo., formerly of Holdrege and Minden, passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at The Villas at Sunny Acres in Thornton.
Pat was born on Dec. 25, 1928, in Old Town, Maine, the eldest of seven children born to Walter and Helen Smart.
She grew up and lived in Maine, until she met and later married Gary Thomsen, who was stationed in Maine in the Air Force. They lived briefly in Louisiana until Gary was discharged from the service. The couple moved back to Minden in 1952, where they owned and operated the City Cafe for many years. They then purchased and operated the Minden Floral Shop until 1964, when they moved to Holdrege and bought the Cozy Inn Café. After the couple sold the café, Pat began to work at the Phelps Memorial Health Center and Holdrege Memorial Homes, until her retirement.
In 1994, Gary preceded her in death. Pat then began to make her home in Thornton, to be close to her children and grandchildren.
Pat was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thornton. It was at St. John’s Church, that she met and married Ed Kuppinger in 1998. He preceded her in death.
Pat loved sewing, crocheting, knitting, and needle work. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, cards and cooking.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gary Thomsen and Ed Kuppinger; sons, Joe and Maury; brothers, Sonny, Bobby and Matthew; and sisters, Mary and Yvonne.
She leaves to celebrate her life her children: Skeeter Wilson and husband, Mike; and Rahn Thomsen and wife, Yvonne, all of Colorado; grandchildren, Aaron Thomsen and wife, Heather; Greg Thomsen and wife, Melanie; Christina Thomsen; Shannon Brown and husband, Scott; Moon Gentry; and Shannon Miller and husband, Brian; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Nina Stormann of Bangor, Maine; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Oct. 9 with the Rev. Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating.
Interment was at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Pat’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
