Kearney County, Minden, Wilcox, and surrounding counties have had a recent rash of burglaries and thefts. According to the Kearney County Attorney Melodie Bellamy, the Minden Police Department and the Kearney County Sheriff Office have had a combined six burglaries and 16 thefts in the last few weeks.
“It is believed that several different people are responsible and, although several of them have been arrested, not all of them have been contacted by law enforcement,” Bellamy said.
Several of the thefts are what is commonly referred to as “car hopping” in which thieves enter a large number of cars in a short amount of time and steal money, electronics, and other items of value which they can sell quickly. Bellamy said that the thieves are doing this as a way to get quick cash.
