Roger Q. Booth, 74, of Wilcox, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with the Rev. Caroline Keenan officiating. The service will be live streamed to the church’s Facebook page. Interment will be held following services at the Hildreth Cemetery, east of Hildreth, with military honors presented by the Wilcox American Legion, and Hildreth Veterans of Foreign Wars, in conjunction with the United States Navy Military Honors Team. Visitation was held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Craig Funeral Home – Jelden Chapel in Hildreth. Memorials in Roger’s honor are kindly suggested to Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department, Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth, or the Kearney Area Animal Shelter. Roger Quint Booth was born on April 19, 1947 in Lincoln, NE to Ilah Portman Rea. He grew up and attended school in the Lincoln area. He was united in marriage to Linda Lea Silas on December 19, 1970 in Grand Island, and to this union 2 children were born: Shawn Ervin and Shane Rea.
Roger joined the United States Navy in November 1965 and faithfully served his country for 24 years. The family traveled with the Navy, beginning in San Diego, CA for boot camp, and then being stationed in the Philippines, New Orleans, LA and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Roger served aboard the USS Claude V. Ricketts and USS Arcadia. When he returned to the states, he began working as a Navy recruiter in Topeka, KS later being transferred to the Great Lakes, North Chicago where he served as the Inspector General. He finished his Navy career in Monroe, LA as a recruiter. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Expert Rifle Ribbon, and National Defense Service Medal. He was runner-up recruiter of the year in his district for two years. He was very proud of his Navy career.
After retiring from the Navy, Roger and his family moved to Wilcox, NE, where he worked for Jurgens Plumbing & Irrigation, and BD in Holdrege. He was a member of the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department, Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth, Lions Club, and the V.F.W.
Roger loved his family dearly. He enjoyed watching Shawn and Shane through all of their sports, from little league through high school and even Shane in college. He coached their little league baseball teams when they were younger. After his kids were grown, he was able to enjoy watching his great nieces and nephews grow up. Roger loved getting to babysit, attending their confirmations, graduations, and all of the special memories of Easter dinners and egg hunts. Roger loved all of his family more then they will ever know.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Booth of Wilcox; sons, Shawn Booth, and his wife, Kelcy, of Waverley, NE, and Shane Booth of Benson, NC; granddaughters, Leah and Emily of Waverley, NE; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Ervin and Tillie Silas, brother and sister-in-laws, Bill and Connie Silas, and Charles and Sharon Silas; and great-nephew, Cody Graf.
