Seniors Shut Out S-G

A one-hitter by Matt Exstrom and a big night at the plate by Cody Nickel were the main factors in Kearney County First Bank’s 6-0 win over Shelton/Gibbon on June 3. FB’s record climbs to 2-2.
The sole run of the contest through three innings was scored by First Bank in the bottom of the first. Exstrom singled, Jonathan Miller singled and Nickel doubled home Exstrom. After three innings FB held a 1-0 lead.
FB put together a hefty five-run fourth to put the contest out of reach considering the job Exstrom was doing on the mound. Colton Maxwell reached first after a dropped third strike and moved around to third after a single by Keller Koch and a walk to Exstrom. J. Miller drove in Maxwell with a single. Then, with three ducks on the pond, Nickel ripped a triple to deep left-center clearing the bases. Nickel scored on a error for the fifth and final run of the inning. That was also the game’s final run as First Bank went on for the shutout victory.
