Elmer E. Spurrier Jr. of Clay Center appeared in Kearney County District Court January 11 for one count of third degree sexual assault of a child, a class 3 felony. Spurrier was represented by Derek Terwey while the state was represented by County Attorney Melodie Bellamy, the honorable Judge Stephen Illingworth presided.
The charge against Spurrier was the result of an incident that occurred in April of 2014. Sentencing for the charge can carry up to five years in prison, a fine, or both as well as requiring the defendant to register as a sex offender for 25 years. Spurrier is currently facing similar charges in Clay County as well.
