Smidt Values Connections Made Through 4H Livestock Shows

Eighteen year old Jacey Smidt of Axtell started showing bucket calves when she was five years old and continued to show cattle when she graduated from a Clover Kid to a full fledged 4H member. This year Jacey will be showing a breeding heifer, a market steer, and her bred and fed steer, Bernie, at the Kearney County Fair.

“I raised him myself and he’s doing pretty good. If I could win at the fair with my own steer, that would be something really special to me,” Jacey said. “Especially since it’s one of my last years.”

Joining 4H was a natural choice for Jacey whose parents were members in their youth. During her time in the club she has tried her hand at cooking and spent two years showing horses, but cattle has always been her passion.
