The St. Paul Lutheran Church youth group of Minden returned last week from a mission trip in Detroit, Michigan. The group of 12 youth and 5 adults joined Camp Restore Detroit in projects to improve the community and quality of life in the 9th Precinct.
“The whole 9th Precinct area is really bad. It was a great learning experience for the kids and maybe even some of the adults. It was a pretty eye-opening experience,” Ken Carpenter said.
Planning for the trip began in December. The group spoke with their interim pastor who left in 2015 to answer a calling at Mt. Cavalry Lutheran Church in Detroit. Both parties believed it would be a good idea to join the efforts of Camp Restore and fundraising efforts began.
