A Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded to the City of Minden in December will soon be used to start Phase II of the Downtown Revitalization project. CDBG funds in the amount of $350,000 and City matching funds of $150,000 will be combined to implement a number of projects in downtown Minden.
“The goal of the Downtown Revitalization grant is to not focus on one project itself, but to try and hit as many facets as possible,” City Administrator Matt Cederburg said. “The Steering Committee is ultimately responsible for putting together the improvements to utilize the grant funds.”
A portion of the $500,000 project funds will be used to establish a facade improvement grant/loan program to aid business owners in a nine block radius of the Kearney County courthouse with updates, renovations, and repairs of their storefronts. Although the guidelines for the program still need to be approved by the state, Miller & Associates and the Minden DTR Steering Committee determined it was important to make funding available to all downtown business owners once the funds are released.
