Sumsion Is New Deputy For County

John Sumsion is the newest Kearney County Deputy Sheriff hired by Sheriff Scott White in June.
Sumsion, born and raised in Lincoln, began his law enforcement career as a non-commissioned security guard with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department. He applied for and received a promotion to officer in 2005.
“It’s something I’ve always been interested in,” Sumsion said.
Sumsion recalled a presentation in early elementary school by the Lincoln Police Department which left him interested in law enforcement. “It was cool that they carried a gun… and protected people,” he said.
