Board member Larry Landstrom acted as chairman in Richard Schwenka’s absence at the June 21 meeting of the Kearney County Board of Supervisors. The contract with Rebecca Miller for child support was back on the agenda.
During the May 17 meeting, the supervisors directed County Attorney Melodie Bellamy to draft a contract for the two parties to reflect newly agreed on terms. A recent change in guidelines created a question in whether to deem Miller an independent contractor or employee in the contract.
Miller is currently considered an independent contractor. Bellamy informed the supervisors that the distinction is now questionable and advised that when there is a discrepancy, the safer route is to consider the individual an employee.
