The Minden High School One Act team attended the Ord Play Production Festival on November 12 to begin the play production competition season. Before their next competition, the team will hold a public performance of their production “The Coffee Pot Is On” November 19 in the Minden High School Fine Arts Auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Coffee Pot Is On, written by Allen D. Edwards, is an original dramatization of the North Platte Canteen from World War II. After waiting at the train station with a large group of North Platte citizens for a group of Nebraska boys to come through on their way to war in December 1941 and being disappointed that the train was carrying Kansas boys, Rae Wilson, a young lady from North Platte wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper asking the community to rally around all the troop trains that came through North Platte during the war. The group gave away all of their baked goods and other items to the Kansas boys that cold evening in December and realized that all of the boys heading to war were their boys.
