Thomas Eugene Latter, 84, of Vancouver, Washington, passed away on August 15, 2020, after a short and courageous battle against cancer.
Tom was born on October, 16, 1935 in Minden, Nebraska. Tom married Judith Claire Wieting on May 3, 1959, and together they had three children; John T. Latter (Melinda), Robert W. Latter (Katherine), and Beth A. White (Jon). Tom was adored by all of his eight grandchildren; Gabriel Latter, David MacKenzie, Joshua Latter, Michael Latter, Thomas Latter, Zoe Porter, Anna Latter, Halle Porter, and great granddaughter Veronica Latter. Tom is also survived by his sister Patricia Mead, who he enjoyed a close relationship with.
After graduating from Minden High School in 1953, Tom honorably served his Country in the United States Army for two years. After his discharge, Tom started his employment with the United States Postal Service where he enjoyed a long career, retiring in 1982.
Since his retirement Tom enjoyed spending time at home watching NCIS (his favorite) and the Seattle Seahawks. He enjoyed dissecting the performance of his Nebraska Cornhuskers during football season. Tom also enjoyed his outings to the bank, his financial advisor, insurance agent, etc., always ending the trip with a McDonalds shake. The employees of these different establishments have already mentioned how much they will miss Tom’s trips to their locations.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Arlene Latter, and his wife of 58 years, Judy. We are comforted that he is no longer in pain. Tom will be missed, but we take comfort in the knowledge that we will see him again in Heaven.
Private family services will be held. Tom will be laid to rest beside Judy at Willamette National Cemetery.
Arrangements are in care of Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Oregon.
