Tilden Community Christmas Tree Has Roots In Minden

The National Christmas Tree Lighting took place on December 5th in Washington, D.C., but beating the federal government to the punch was the small town of Tilden, Nebraska. On Saturday, December 4th, Tilden had its own tree lighting ceremony sponsored by its Young Men’s Club.

For the second year, this progressive organization has selected a huge evergreen tree, hauled it to the intersection of Main and Madison Streets, and lighted it to kick off the Christmas season. Community groups and vendors provided popcorn, wine tastings, hot chocolate, and other goodies. The high school singers performed Christmas songs. The Young Men’s Club provided fire pits. Santa welcomed children to his sleigh with an opportunity for photos. Community members strolled Main Street enjoying the festivities.
