Township Discontinuance May Be On November Ballot

The Kearney County Board of Supervisors at their upcoming board meeting on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 will have an agenda item to discuss placing on the November 2020 ballot a question of discontinuing Township form of county government.

Township form of government is made up of a three-person board who have control of levying for maintenance of township roads and other issues within their township.

In 1994 all Kearney County Township Boards turned over to the Kearney County Board of Supervisors their levying for maintenance of roads, equipment, paperwork and other responsibilities within their township. The Board of Supervisors have been operating same as Commissioners the past 17 years while still maintaining 14 township boards.
