The Tri-Basin NRD held its annual Board of Director’s Tour on August 10 followed by a public hearing regarding proposed revisions to the Tri-Basin’s rules and regulations for management and protection of land and water resources.
Tour stops on the 2021 Board of Director’s Tour included Wyatt Abrahamson’s Miniature Cattle, Fort Kearny State Historical Park, Grayson Tool Company, and Burgess Well Company. The tour concluded with lunch at the Windmill in Minden catered by Cozy Corner Cafe.
Following the meal, a public hearing was opened to receive testimony from the public about proposed revisions to the Tri-Basin’s rules and regulations for management and protection of land and water resources. The revisions are intended to simplify and expedite rules enforcement, changed the standard used in the Little Blue River Basin area for regulation under Phase 3 groundwater management rules, add a requirement for the district to file notice with the County Clerk describing limitations with operation of newly permitted wells, and revise rules related to estimation of consumptive water use supplied by non-municipal water wells. Written testimonies from the Nebraska Department of Energy and Environment and Nebraska Department of Natural Resources in support of the Tri-Basin NRD efforts and management of resources were read before the floor was opened to public comment.
