Trustees Approve Senior Life Solutions Program

The December meeting of the Kearney County Health Services (KCHS) Board of Trustees was held December 26. Pete Underwood from Psychiatric Medical Care (PMC) gave a presentation about the Senior Life Solutions program.
The Senior Life Solutions program was created in 2003 in response to the lack of access to mental health care and the high number of cases of depression and anxiety in the aging population. Since its inception, PMC has introduced the Senior Life Solutions program in hospitals across the country. The program has been successful in every healthcare facility it is operated in including five in the state of Nebraska.
The outpatient service is a group therapy program. Participants meet in a group setting three days per week, meet individually with a therapist every other week, and attend a one on one appointment with the psychiatrist once a month. Groups are comprised of 7-10 individuals. This model has been found to be the most effective for elderly patients.
