Valuations Up, Levy Drops One Cent

The Kearney County Board of Supervisors approved the 2010-2011 budget following public hearing on Tuesday.
The total property tax request for Kearney County is $3,079,223.00, up  $138,916.00 from the 2009-2010 request of $2,940,307.00.
The county’s total calculated tax levy is 0.337811.  The levy equates to a property tax levy of approximately 34¢ per $100.00 of valuation.  For example, the total property tax levy by the county on property valuing $100,000 will be $340.00, a decrease of approximately 1¢ from 2009-2010.
Although the county’s tax asking is higher than the previous year, the decrease in the levy should balance out resulting in  property  taxes remaining nearly stationary for Kearney County land owners.
Valuations in Kearney County rose by 9.6 percent.
