Kearney County residents will soon hit the polls for the 2016 General Election. Along with electing candidates to various offices, voters will be asked to decide if the Kearney County Noxious Weed Board should be dissolved.
The item was added to the ballot during the June 21 meeting of the Kearney County Board of Supervisors. Originally brought to the board’s attention by Weed Supervisor Joe Anderson, it was his suggestion, with the backing of the Weed Board members, to dissolve the Weed Board. Discussions on the matter have been ongoing at supervisor meetings since last October. The advantages and drawbacks were weighed with the opinion that the board had become unnecessary and ineffective.
